FFA Opportunities within the Power, Structural and Technical Systems and Animal Systems Pathways
Welcome back! To recap, last week we discussed FFA Opportunities in the Food Science Systems and Environmental/Natural Resource Systems Pathways. This week, we are going to discuss opportunities in power/structural/technical systems and plant systems. As always, if you want more information about any of the CDEs or LDEs that the National FFA Organization offers, you can find it here.

Power/Structural/Technical Systems
-Agricultural Technology & Mechanical Systems: With you team, you will work together to solve an agricultural problem scenario. Individually, you will complete a written exam.
Animal Systems
-Dairy Cattle Evaluation and Management: In this CDE, you will evaluate the cattle's physical characteristics, explain classes, and, as a team, analyze a herd.
-Dairy Handlers: During this contest, the contestant will present their dairy animal. During this event, you will be evaluated by judges on your ability to set up their animal effectively, maintain control, effectively demonstrate restraint of animal, and move the animal fluidly.
-Horse Evaluation: In this CDE, you will place classes of equine based on breeding characteristics, conformation and performance and will give oral reasons to back up the decisions of rank.
-Livestock Evaluation: Within this contest, you will rank classes of breeding and market cattle, swine, sheep and goats, and give oral reasons to explain your choices on rankings of the placing classes.
-Poultry Evaluation: Within this CDE, you will evaluate meat poultry animals by placing live-hen eggs, grading "ready-to-eat" and whole carcasses of chicken and turkey. Also, you will evaluate broiler breeding scenarios, and rate the finished products of chicken and turkey.
-Veterinary Science: In this event, you will complete hands-on practicums, a written exam, identifications, and critical-thinking scenarios.
This series of pathway events will be put on hold until November 18, but in the mean time, articles will be published on National FFA Convention, which is November 1-4, 2023!
As always, thanks for reading, and come back next week for more "All About Ag with Esther" content!
